The tool designed for creating new questionnaires is the IC Pen Survey Editor 2. The form you want to load into the system should be in PDF file format. The picture below shows the logging in screen which is the default start up screen. You can also choose the language of application (English or Polish). To gain access to the application, you must log in by filling in the Customer, Login and Password fields and confirming with the Sign in button. The credentials are the same as the ones used for the IC Pen Client application.
After logging in, you will see the editor’s main window. To begin working with previously prepared PDF file, choose New project:
Specify the path to the PDF file you want to load into the system and click Open. Now you can see the document in the main window. To adjust the zoom, you can use the plus and minus buttons in the bottom right corner or by pressing left CTRL on your keyboard and moving your mouse wheel up and down. To view different pages of a multi-page document use the < and > buttons. It is recommended to use the program in full screen (click twice on the top bar or click the middle icon in the top right of the window). You can also adjust different areas of the screen by clicking and holding the line dividing them and dragging it to the new position.
In order to save different stages of your work you can use the standard Save or Save as options. IC Pen Survey Editor 2 saves files in a peculiar *.icpdf2 file format. IC Pen Survey Editor 2 is backward compatible with *.icpdf files created in the IC Pen Survey Editor (EOL).
At any time, you can swap the background PDF file. It’s useful if the background document is updated or when the new survey you want to create isn’t much different from the existing one – i.e. a question is added or deleted. To swap the background, use the Replace PDF function. While using this function, simply select the new PDF document and confirm with the Open button in your system window.
The effect is a changed document background (PDF file). Regions that were defined earlier will remain unaffected. You must remember to adjust their positions to fit the new background (picture below). It is possible to replace a single-page document with a multi-page one and the other way around (in this situation it is important to know that regions located on pages that don’t exist in the new PDF document will be lost).
When a questionnaire is finished and properly coded (coding is described in the next step), you can add it to the system. To do that, the project has to be saved before and if it isn’t, the program will ask you to do so. To add the survey to the system click Enter to system.
In the pop-up window (see screenshot on the next page), type in a name (the form will be shown in IC Pen Client application under this name), choose the language of the character recognition and add tags (not required). They should consist only of a-z, 0-9 characters and the “_“ underscore. To add tags, type them in the text field and click Add. To remove them, select one from the list and click Remove.
Confirm the by clicking Enter to system. It may take a while for the forms to be uploaded (especially in case of multiple-page documents).
If you followed the previous steps, the program will confirm that the form was successfully added to the system. From now on, the form will be available in the IC Pen Client application.
